Dr. Gewa in an assistant professor in the Department of Global and Community Health. She teaches courses in public health and nutrition. Her research focuses on populations in less developed countries looking at factors influencing nutrition status and the role of nutrition in health outcomes among different population groups. Dr. Gewa worked in Kenya looking at dietary assessment methodology, dietary behavior and the effect of dietary intake on growth and cognitive function among primary school children. She has looked at factors influencing consumption of iodised salt among households in rural Kenya. Dr. Gewa earned an M.S. in Applied Human Nutrition from the University of Nairobi, an M.P.H. and a Ph.D. in Public Health the University of California at Los Angeles.
