Mr. Henderson is the Acting Deputy Director for the Center for Health Policy Research & Ethics. He also serves as Director of the Center’s premiere annual educational offering, the Washington Health Policy Institute, a week-long summer seminar for graduate students and others interested in health policy and how to influence the policymaking process. In addition, Mr. Henderson contributes his expertise to ongoing research projects related to the health professions workforce and public financing of health professions education.
Mr. Henderson has over thirty years of experience in progressive health policy research, project management, and clinic administration for federal, state, international, and private sector organizations. He is nationally recognized as having expertise in primary care and health professions policy and programs for the underserved. Mr. Henderson has authored numerous reports, convened multiple policy forums, and made frequent presentations at conferences on various public health policy and program issues. He is a former member of the United States delegation to the Annual International Conference on the Health Care Workforce.
Prior to joining the Center in 2004 he was the Director, Institute for Primary Care and Workforce Analysis at the National Conference of State Legislatures. Other previous positions held include senior policy analyst with the National Governors' Association, Center for Policy Research, and with the United States Congress, Office of Technology Assessment. Mr. Henderson received his Master of Arts in Mass Communications (Public Relations and Advertising) from the University of Florida, Gainesville in 1986, and his Master of Science in Public Health (Health Policy and Administration) from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1979.
He is an assistant professor in GMU’s Department of Health Administration and Policy in the College of Health and Human Services, teaching courses in health policy for baccalaureate and masters degree health sciences students.
