Dr. Loretta Brush Normile graduated with a BSN and MN from the University of Pittsburgh. She holds a doctorate in counseling and Development in Higher Education from American University, Washington, DC. Dr. Normile has a broad-based background in nursing. She has experiences in nursing practice as staff nurse, home health care, and clinical specialist,. She has extensive experience in nursing education and administration. She has taught at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA, Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, Washington, and West Virginia Northern Community College.

Dr. Normile has been on the faculty at GMU since 1992. At GMU, she teaches Community Health Nursing, Leadership and Management, Advanced Clinical Practice Nursing and Nursing Theory. Dr. Normile's research interest is with disenfranchised populations. Her past research includes psychological distress in parents who lost adult children to cancer vs. AIDS. She also studied female inmates and HIV/STD risk reduction.

Dr. Normile is immediate past president of Epsilon Zeta Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She is also a retired Lieutenant Colonel, Army Nurse Corps, from the US Army Reserves.
