Dr. Smoczynski has an extensive background in Medical-Surgical Nursing. She has been on the faculty of George Mason part time since 1979, teaching both in the undergraduate Nursing program or in the Professional Development Program. Currently she serves as the Coordinator of the Clinical Simulation Laboratories. She has taught nursing at Northern Virginia Community College and at Marymount University and has been the Director of Nursing. She is a previous President of Epsilon Zeta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Nursing Society of Nursing. She is also a member of the Virginia Nurses' Association, the Navy Nurse Corps Association, and a Nurse Leader in the Fairfax County Medical Reserve Corps. In 1988 she received the Distinguished Service Award from Villanova University.
