Program in Assisted Living/Senior Housing Administration
Tracks

Undergraduate Concentration in Assisted Living/Senior Housing Administration:

  1. Traditional Track - Leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science Management, with a Concentration in Assisted Living/Senior Housing Administration. This four-year track includes a minor in Business Administration from the University's School of Management, further enhancing administrative skills and qualifications. The major for this track begins in the Junior year, with students completing a pre-health science curriculum and program application prior to enrollment.

  2. Accelerated Track - Also leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science Management, with a Concentration in Assisted Living/Senior Housing Administration. This track allows individuals who have already obtained an Associate's degree to complete the coursework necessary for a Bachelor's degree in the least amount of time. Credit is provided for required coursework as determined at the time of admission, and in conjunction with Health Science Faculty. The Accelerated Track is also available for students who have completed previous undergraduate coursework and are seeking to finish a degree.

Graduate Certificate/Concentration:

  1. Certificate Track - This 15 credit hour program is designed for professionals who have previously obtained a bachelor's or advanced degree, but are seeking entry into or advancement within the Assisted Living/Senior Housing field. Coursework is designed to take into account the needs of the adult learner and tailored to those areas of particular importance to success in Assisted Living Administration.

  2. Graduate Concentration/Masters in Health Science - Students pursuing a Master's in Health Science Management may additionally complete a Concentration in Assisted Living/Senior Housing Administration as part of their degree. Coursework completed towards the Graduate Certificate can be applied toward the Master's degree and Concentration.

Internships:

The Program additionally provides for the completion of one-of-a-kind student internships that allow for application of course concepts in a real world environment, add to the student's experience, and provide networking and career opportunities:

Senior Housing Internships: These internships can most benefit students with little or no previous experience in healthcare or senior services. Structured, 16-week experiences can be completed within some of the industry's leading providers of assisted living/senior housing services, including Sunrise Senior Living, as well as national associations, regulatory, consumer, or other assisted living/senior housing related organizations in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Hospitality Services Internships: These innovative internships can most benefit students with little or no previous experience in hospitality services. Completed within the Walt Disney World College Partner program in Orlando, Florida, students accepted for this one-semester internship complete both work experience and American College of Education approved coursework within hospitality management areas of the Walt Disney World Resort.
