Program Overview

This program prepares clinicians and health care managers to develop and manage health information systems and electronic commerce services. Students learn the development and management of systems and service related to patient records, enterprise data management in health industry, and Telehealth. The certificate is ideal for people with technical and programming skills who have been promoted to new management positions in the health care industry and wish to enhance their understanding of health care issues and management techniques. It is also ideal for clinicians and managers with little background in database management who wish to gain more skills and understanding about organizing health databases.

No prior computer programming training is needed.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA to be considered for a graduate certificate program. Application is made through the College of Health and Human Services using the standard online Application for Graduate Study. Application materials and instructions are available at http://admissions.gmu.edu. Along with the online application and application fee, applicants must submit two official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities, a goals statement, and two letters of recommendation.
