2008 CHHS Habit of Excellence Award

Susan Durham, School of Nursing, is the recipient of the 2008 CHHS Habit of Excellence Award. In addition to the substantial clinical skill that she brings to our nursing programs, Susan is known for her passion for developing nursing students as critical thinkers and writers. Among many notable contributions, Susan developed the criteria for the synthesis and writing intensive courses for undergraduate students and orients faculty members to the evaluation process for students' writing portfolios each semester. She is appreciated by her colleagues for her collaborative spirit and dedication to excellence.

Last year Susan accepted the position of  Assistant Director for the Mason Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Program. The Mason WAC program is among the top fifteen Writing in the Disciplines programs in the country. This distinction places GMU in the company of Harvard, Princeton, and Stanford. We can all be proud to know that one of our CHHS colleagues holds such an important leadership position in a truly excellent program for Mason students.

In recognition of her many achievements and the habit of excellence with which she completes her work, Susan will receive an award and a check for $3,000 during our College Convocation exercise on Friday May 16.
