
Dr. Robin Remsburg has accepted the position of Director of
the School of Nursing and Associate Dean in the College of Health and Human
Services beginning June 25, 2008. During the past five years, Dr. Remsburg
served as the Long-Term Care Statistics Branch Chief and the Deputy Director
of the Divison of Health Care Statistics at the National Center for Health
Statistics. In these roles, she worked with teams of statisticians, survey
methodologists, clinicians, and social and health scientists to redesign the
National Nursing Home Survey and the National Home and Hospice Survey. Her
staff of 50 specialists and scientists are currently in the process of redesigning
the National Hospital Discharge Survey under a $6.6 mil contract for which
Dr. Remsburg is the project officer. During her years at the National Center,
Dr. Remsburg earned a widespread national reputation for high quality team
work and excellent administrative skills.
In addition to her personal research background and experience in managing clinical
trials and performing health services research, Dr. Remsburg brings a strong
educational and clinical background to the Mason School of Nursing. She is a
nationally certified Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist with expertise
in nutrition and hydration of older adults in long term care and in end of life
care. She has taught undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students and
is a highly sought after presenter at professional meetings. Dr. Remsburg is
a past President of the National Gerontological Nursing Association, a Fellow
of the American Academy of Nursing, a member of the editorial board of Geriatric
Nursing, and a member of numerous advisory groups for nursing and long-term care.
Dr. Remsburg is very enthusiastic about her appointment and anxious to begin
work with her new colleagues in the School of Nursing and the College of Health
and Human Services.
