I graduated from George Mason University (GMU) in the Spring of 1999 with
a Master of Science in Nursing in Gerontology. My clinical areas of interest
are adult and geriatric mental health and substance abuse with a focus in dementia
related disorders. Following graduation I intend to sit for the ANCC exam for
clinical specialist in mental health as well as gerontology.
I have had a very rich educational experience while attending GMU. The classes and instructors have provided an excellent learning environment and have encouraged my professional and personal growth. The class schedules were flexible and allowed me to continue to work full-time while attending graduate school. My clinical experiences have been rewarding and I have been able to meet all of my professional goals. The staff of the College of Nursing and Health Science (MSN) encourages students to establish and maintain relationships with peers and mentors to promote continued professional development and leadership within nursing. They recognize the value of today's advanced practice nurse in our community as well as our society.
During my studies at GMU I have had a few personal crises which could have potentially disrupted my program of study. Fortunately, my faculty advisors and instructors as well as my peers were there to offer their assistance and support and I was able to continue with my studies without interruption. I would encourage any nurse to consider pursuing an advanced practice degree and would recommend the MSN program at George Mason University.
