Courses you must complete before application and before admission to the BSN program
Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) course equivalents to George Mason prerequisites
Determine if your Credits Transfer
Note: Transfer equivalency decisions are ultimately made by the Office of Admissions only after a student has been admitted to Mason and paid the enrollment deposit to the Office of Admissions. It is the applicant’s responsibility to determine if a potential transfer course matches the Mason BSN prerequisite.
Use the Transfer Credit Search Engine to determine if credits earned at another institution will transfer to George Mason. The search engine includes all Virginia Community College System (VCCS) schools, as well as other institutions throughout Virginia and across the country.
If your course is not listed in the search engine, review the Nursing, BSN information in Mason’s online course catalog. Compare the Mason course descriptions of the prerequisites to the descriptions of courses taken at another institution.
The Virginia Guaranteed Admission Agreement guarantees George Mason admission to qualifying applicants from VCCS schools or Richard Bland College. If you are admitted into George Mason under the terms of the GAA, you receive a general education waiver and all of your general education prerequisite course requirements will be met (with the exception of ENGH 302, Mason’s upper-level English course). Your nursing prerequisite course requirements will not be waived.
Admission to George Mason through the GAA does not guarantee admission into the BSN Program. In order to be eligible for BSN admission, you will be expected to complete a BSN application (which is separate from the university application). The Mason BSN pathways are extremely competitive, and we advise all students to develop a thoughtful back-up plan.
The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Nursing is required for all RN to BSN applicants. However, the AAS degree is not a qualifying degree for GAA eligibility. Thus, it is not possible to obtain a general education waiver with just the AAS. Contact your VCCS advisor for information about pursuing a qualifying degree.
