    College of Health and Human Services Distinguished Scholar Award

    The Distinguished Scholar Award provide scholarships to College of Health and Human Services undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need and academic merit. Recipients must be enrolled as a full-time student, have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, and be a resident of the DC metropolitan area. Preference given to first-generation college students.

    Gerontology Scholarship Award

    The Herman B. Brotman Endowed Scholarship benefits an undergraduate or graduate students interested in pursuing a career with older adults, caregivers, and family members. Recipients must be full-time students and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

    The College of Health and Human Services Student Travel Award defrays travel costs for undergraduate and graduate students attending and presenting a poster or paper at a regional/national conference. This fund was created to emphasize the impact of this important professional development milestone for students. Student must demonstrate active involvement in the poster or paper. After the conference, the award recipient must submit a one-page summary of the conference for internal and external publication.

    • To apply: Please fill out the application for the College of Health and Human Services Student Travel Award, found on the CHHS website, and email it to Emily Cooper at ecoope11@gmu.edu. Applications are accepted year-round.

    Florence M. Schaffner Endowed Scholarship

    The Florence M. Schaffner Endowed Scholarship provides a travel award to an undergraduate or graduate nursing student who is traveling to a developing country for educational purposes.

    Skolnik Family and Global Health Endowed Fellowship

    The Skolnik Family and Global Health Endowed Fellowship provides a stipend to a student doing research or practice on key issues in the health of poor and marginalized population in low- and middle-income countries. An award is offered yearly to a currently enrolled full-time undergraduate junior or senior (returning for at least one semester) students majoring in Community Health. The recipients may be either in-state or out-of-state residents. International students will need to select a location other than their home country.

    Bette Burch Nursing Endowed Scholarship

    The Bette Burch Nursing Endowed Scholarship benefits a full-time undergraduate nursing student demonstrating a commitment to the nursing profession. Recipients will qualify based on their demonstrated financial need, their level of commitment to the nursing profession, and how they plan to use their nursing education to benefit others.

    Carolyn A. Taylor Endowed Scholarship

    The purpose of the fund is to provide a scholarship for an undergraduate in nursing. All students are eligible to apply with students of African American heritage encouraged to apply. The recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student, a US citizen, and resident in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

    Deborah J. Milanowski Nursing Endowed Scholarship

    The Deborah J. Milanowski Endowed Scholarship benefits a full-time undergraduate nursing student with a cummulative GPA of 3.0 or greater. Preference is given to a student with genetic condition cystic fibrosis; however astudent with other chronic medical condition or physical disability will be considered. A student meeting the above criteria is entitled to the scholarship without regard to his/her financial need.

    Eric & Melissa Merten Endowed Scholarship

    The Eric and Melissa Merten Endowed fund provide a scholarship for an undergraduate nursing student. Recipients must be full-time students and may either be in-state or out-of-state residents. Scholarships will be awarded based on merit and financial need.

    The Heidi Rothenhaus School of Nursing fund provides a scholarship to a full-time, undergraduate junior or senior nursing student. The scholarship is awarded based on financial need.

    The Kay McNamera Nursing fund provides a scholarship to a full-time, undergraduate nursing student with demonstrated academic merit and financial need. Recipients must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

    The Lettie Pate Whitehead Nursing fund provides scholarships to full-time, nursing students already accepted in or enrolled in the undergraduate or graduate program. Recipients will qualify on the basis of financial need and must be a Christian woman who is a resident of the specified states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

    The Lettie Pate Whitehead Nursing fund provides scholarships to full-time, nursing students already accepted in or enrolled in the undergraduate or graduate program. Recipients will qualify on the basis of financial need and must be a Christian woman who is a resident of the specified states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

    Marie Shea Ganley & Laura Buckreis Monroe Memorial Scholarship

    The Marie Shea Ganley and Laura Buckreis Monroe Memorial fund provides scholarship support and financial recognition to a Registered Nurse studying in the RN to BSN degree program. Full-time students, in their final semester of study, will qualify on basis of academic merit and must have a cumulative 3.2 GPA while enrolled at George Mason University. The recipient must be a US citizen, but can reside in any state.

    Mildred W. Spransy, RN. Endowed Scholarship

    The Mildred W. Spransy fund provide a scholarship to support an undergraduate full-time, nursing student, who will qualify on the basis of academic merit and financial need. Preference will be given to in-state students who are US citizens.

    Pan American Roundtable Scholarship

    The Pan American Roundtable of DC fund provides scholarships to female nursing students who are fluent in Spanish. Recipients must have demonstrated financial need and a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.

    The Patricia Felker Dierksen Nursing fund provides a scholarship to a full-time undergraduate nursing student with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

    Rosemarie C. Brenkus Endowed Scholarship

    The Rosemarie C. Brenkus Endowed fund provides a scholarship for an employed registered nurse pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing. Recipients must have a minimum of a 2.8 GPA in nursing courses and a commitment to the nursing profession as demonstrated through a written statement. Full-time, in-state or out-of-state students can apply

    The Violet B. Robinson Endowed fund provides a scholarship to a full-time, undergraduate student in the nursing program with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

    Camille Barry PhD Endowed Scholarship

    The purpose of the fund is to provide a scholarship for a full-time student pursuing a doctoral degree in nursing. Recipients must demonstrate being a nurse leader and must be in good academic standing. Recipient must clearly articulate their career and research goals after graduation. The recipient must be a US citizen, but may be either an in-or out-of-state resident.

    Miriam Raskin Field Education Award

    The Miriam Raskin Field Education Award provides financial support to Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) students experiencing financial challenges impacting their ability to complete field education requirements. Students with expressed needs, as verified by faculty, will be eligible for awards of $100 per semester.
