Georgine Redmond
Retiring from George Mason University in 2004 after 28 years of leading, teaching
and inspiring students and faculty, Dr. Georgine Redmond continues to use
her extensive skills to provide service to others. For the past three years,
she has been the parish nurse at St. Anthony of Padua in Falls Church, Virginia,
where she works with vulnerable populations from the church’s congregation
and the surrounding community. Dr. Redmond follows the philosophy of parish
nursing in the many aspects of her work by integrating a spiritual dimension
to the physical, social, and psychological components of nursing practice.
She visits the sick in their homes or at hospitals, serves as an advocate
for patients and their families, trains volunteers to provide respite care,
and organizes health fairs and a monthly luncheon meeting with a healthcare
focus for seniors. From time to time, Dr. Redmond calls upon her former colleagues
and students from the Mason School of Nursing to lead health education sessions
or to assist with cholesterol and other screenings at health fairs. Although
Dr. Redmond has left the classroom and campus, she continues to love nursing,
a sentiment she always wanted to instill in her students.
