Chair and Professor, Department of Nutrition and Food Studies

The College of Health and Human Services at George Mason University (Mason) seeks an energetic and visionary leader to serve as the next Chair of the Department of Nutrition and Food Studies. A Carnegie Research I institution, Mason is the largest and most diverse public university in Virginia with more than 36,000 students from 50 states and over 135 countries. The Department Chair position will be filled by a tenured professor with a 12-month appointment. The chair will provide visionary leadership for the department’s academic, research and service mission, while managing fiscal resources. The chair is responsible for faculty recruitment, promoting mentorship of early and mid-career faculty, facilitating professional development of all faculty and staff, strengthening the graduate academic enterprise, and promoting the department to various constituent groups in concert with the strategic goals of the College and University. The chair is expected to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills who will serve as a strong advocate for the department and will engage in transparent decision-making while nurturing a culture of consensus and collaboration.
