Blackboard Resources and Instructional Guides for Faculty
The following instructional guides and videos provide instruction on common tasks in Blackboard. You will find the guides are arranged in roughly the order one would need them when completing a task in Blackboard.
A Note on Ultra: Many of the links refer to Blackboard Ultra. With the exception of Collaborate Ultra, George Mason uses the Blackboard Learn Original Experience. Disregard instructions that include "Ultra" in the section header.
Important Blackboard Instructions
This section includes important instructions regarding Blackboard. We highly recommend that all faculty review these instructions before using Blackboard.

This section is an orientation to the Blackboard interface and how to customize the interface.
Communicating with Students
This section covers various tools to communicate with students. Asynchronous methods include the announcements tool, email, messaging. Synchronous methods include Blackboard Collaborate and the Collaboration text chat tools.
Assignments and SafeAssign Assignments
This section covers creating an assignment, creating an optional grading rubric, using SafeAssign to evaluate for plaigiarism, and grading assignments.
This section covers creating and grading assessments (exams, quizzes, tests).
This section covers tool designed build community in your including discussion boards, journals, blogs, and wikis.
This section covers how to create and manage student groups.
This section covers using the grade book to calculate final grades and creating filters (called "Smart Views") to view a portion of the students.
