If I already hold a bachelor’s degree, am I eligible to apply to the Traditional pathway and the Accelerated Second Degree pathway?
No. At this time, applicants may only apply for one pathway. If you currently hold a bachelor’s degree and do not hold an RN license, you are not eligible to apply to the Traditional pathway. Instead, you are expected to apply to the Accelerated Second Degree pathway.
As a BSN applicant, will I be required to attend an information session?
Though not required, it is truly in your best interest to attend a BSN information session on our Fairfax Campus. During the session, you will receive detailed information regarding the application process and our eligibility requirements. In addition, advisors will be available at the end of the sessions to meet with you individually and discuss your specific questions and provide a preliminary evaluation of your transcripts. Please be sure to bring copies of transcripts from each institution attended. International students must provide official evaluations of all foreign transcripts from an agency approved by NACES.
What if I took a prerequisite course, but it was some time ago?
If you are applying to the Traditional or Accelerated Second Degree pathway, please be aware that your Anatomy and Physiology I, Anatomy and Physiology II, and Microbiology courses cannot be more than five years old by the time of BSN enrollment. For example, for students pursuing fall 2017 BSN admission, these three courses must have been completed during or after the fall 2012 semester. Courses completed during the spring or summer 2012 semester will not meet this requirement. This time limitation does not apply to any other courses or to students applying to the RN to BSN pathway.
Can I take my two remaining science prerequisites in the spring semester of the year I apply?
No. You must successfully complete two of the three sciences (Anatomy and Physiology I, Anatomy and Physiology II, and Microbiology) by the time of application (January 15) for fall admission.
If I repeat a prerequisite course, will both the new grade and the old grade be considered when my BSN application is reviewed?
Yes, the Admissions Committee will review both grades. Both the old grade and the new grade will be used when calculating your nursing prerequisite GPA, even if you have repeated the course multiple times. We strongly encourage all applicants to calculate their nursing prerequisite GPA prior to application in order to determine whether or not they have met the 3.0 nursing prerequisite GPA eligibility guideline. In most cases, admission to the program is unlikely if this guideline is not met.
